Angola: WORKSHOP ON CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATIONAL BIODIVERSITY STRATEGY REVIEW CONCLUDES
WORKSHOP ON CONTRIBUTION TO THE NATIONAL BIODIVERSITY STRATEGY
On Thursday, July 25, the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho, delivered the closing remarks for the workshop on Contribution to the Review of the National Biodiversity Strategy, which began yesterday, Wednesday (24), at the National Archives of Angola, Luanda.
During her speech, the Minister emphasized that biodiversity conservation is a cross-cutting issue that involves all institutions directly or indirectly related to this matter.
"The development of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan 2025-2030 (NBSAP 2025-2030) is a significant milestone in Angola's commitment to achieving the Vision of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, established under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This includes protecting 30% of our territory and restoring 30% of degraded ecosystems, known as the 30x30 Target. This Vision aims to achieve a world living in harmony with nature by 2050, where biodiversity is valued, conserved, restored, and wisely used, maintaining ecosystem services, supporting a healthy planet, and providing essential benefits for all humanity," the Minister highlighted.
The meeting, which involved various entities from MINAMB, INBAC, MAT, EU, FAO, UNDP, ECOANGOLA, OTHIVA, Provincial Environmental Departments, Ministerial Departments, Provincial Governments, National Defense and Security Institutions, the Attorney General's Office, Academia, national and international NGOs, the private sector, Banks, Foundations related to environmental preservation and conservation, among other entities and partners, addressed various topics scheduled for implementation by 2030.
Key goals outlined include Biodiversity and Land Management, Restoration of Degraded Areas, Increasing the country's protected surface, Threatened Species, Over-exploitation of natural resources, management of exotic species, Biodiversity and pollution source management, biodiversity monitoring and supervision, among other points discussed in the two sessions.
