Angola: FIRE CONTROLLED IN MALANJE FOREST RESERVE
During a three-day fieldwork visit in the Province of Malanje, the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho Pereira, visited the Matari Ya Njinga Forest Reserve, located in the Cula Muxito neighborhood of the municipality of Malanje.
The Minister's visit, accompanied by the Provincial Governor Marcos Alexandre Nhunga, the Director of the Institute of Biodiversity and Conservation Areas (INBAC), the Provincial Environment Office, and the Provincial Command of the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB), was prompted by a fire outbreak in the area.
A joint effort was conducted at the Forest Reserve to investigate and assess the environmental damage caused by the fire.
The Provincial Command of the SPCB, the Municipal Administration, the Provincial Environment Directorate, and the Forestry Institute are working together to address the issue of uncontrolled burns. They are conducting awareness campaigns within communities to promote environmental and forest preservation.
It is important to note that the Matari Ya Njinga Forest Reserve is located 15 kilometers west of the city of Malanje, spanning an area of 220 hectares of eucalyptus trees. Besides serving as a landmark, it also helps mitigate the impact of strong winds.
